Big Brothers Big Sisters

This 8’x23’ clay and glass mural was orchestrated by Works of Heart, inc. for Big Brothers and Big Sisters from 2003-2004. The mural depicts symbols that are important to the nature of the Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization and to the adults and children who participated in making the mural.

Included in the mural are the organization’s logo of an adult and child, a sun which symbolizes the child’s potential, a large tree symbolizing growth, along with animals and flowers as symbols of Kansas and their environment, as well as a road to symbolize movement into the future.

The project was a collaborative effort between Works of Heart, inc. and the “Bigs” and “Littles” of the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. Ten artists and approximately 250 “Big” and “Little” matches were involved in the making of the mural. The artists were responsible for the style, design and color of the mural. The matches were able to go to fun workshops led by Works of Heart, inc. to create tiles for the mural and choose designs and have an opportunity to create together.

The mural was installed at Big Brothers and Big Sisters and can be viewed at their location at 219 N. St. Francis in Wichita.
