Bottles of Hope

Bottles of Hope was started in 1999 by cancer survivor Diane Gregoire as a way to bring hope and cheer to others afflicted by cancer. Being a polymer clay artist, Diane covered empty medication bottles, that were disposed of during her chemotherapy treatments, with her own polymer designs. She returned the decorated bottles she created to nurses to give to other cancer patients. Her gifts of "Bottles of Hope" were so well received that she began a program in which cancer patients could create their own bottles. Numerous polymer clay guilds throughout the country have started their own "Bottles of Hope" programs. The bottles are to be given as gifts and never sold.
WORKS OF HEaRT has adopted the "Bottles of Hope" program and serves the greater Wichita Area. We would like to facilitate bottle making workshops within the community. WORKS OF HEaRT is currently preparing to officially launch the program into the community. All bottles will be given to local Oncology clinics for distribution.

How are the Bottles Made?

Small glass bottles that originally contained Heparin Lock Flush (a non-toxic subtance used to push medication through IV systems) as well as other glass containers are used in making "Bottles of Hope". While the bottles were originally decorated with polymer clay, they can be decorated countless ways- the possibilities are endless!

Each bottle is given to the patient with a poem or inspirational quote inside, and some patients choose to put their own personal wish inside of the bottle.
