Sacred Space
|
In 2001, a handful of artists came together to create an exhibit that aims to raise awareness of endangered environments and cultural diversity. By the opening of the Sacred Space exhibition at the Ulrich Museum in April 2002, more than 70 artists had lent their creative skills to the endeavor, including students from the Wichita State University School of Art and Design, Northeast Magnet High School and Holy Cross Lutheran School. These artists transformed the Amsden Gallery into an international courtyard with eight murals providing framed vistas of the world. A central labyrinth offers visitors a spiritual journey within a circumscribed area. Origami cranes and assorted animals are suspended above the labyrinth to raise your awareness of animals and plants whose numbers are threatened by disease and loss of habitat due to man's encroachment on their environment. Sacred Space: A Collaborative Exhibition was held at Exploration Place from February 2 through March 4, 2007. Please enjoy the slide show and if you would like more information about the exhibition, please contact us.
